It sits on the Pacific coast in the South Bay area of the Los Angeles metropolitan region, between Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach. The city is about 20 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles and roughly 8 miles south of Los Angeles International Airport. Hermosa Beach is located at approximately 33.862° North latitude and 118.400° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 19,506 residents. The city covers about 1.43 square miles, or 3.70 square kilometers. Hermosa Beach Pier and the adjoining Strand are its best-known landmarks, with the waterfront providing space for walking, cycling, surfing, and beach activities. A unique feature of Hermosa Beach is its small size combined with a long stretch of Pacific Ocean shoreline.
