Live Oak is a city located in Sutter County, California, the United States. It lies in the northern Sacramento Valley, about 10 miles north of Yuba City, 15 miles south of Gridley, and about 60 miles north of Sacramento. Live Oak is located at approximately 39.279° North latitude and 121.662° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 9,106 residents, and the city covers about 3.12 square miles (8.08 sq km). The community was established in 1866 and incorporated in 1947. Its early growth was closely tied to the railroad and agriculture, with orchards, rice fields, and other crops shaping the surrounding landscape. The city sits near the Feather River and the distinctive Sutter Buttes, a group of volcanic peaks that rise above the Sacramento Valley. Gray Lodge Wildlife Area is also nearby and is well known for wetlands and large numbers of migratory birds.
