Where is Lomita Located?
Lomita is a city located in Los Angeles County, California, the United States. It lies in the South Bay region of the Los Angeles metropolitan area, about 25 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles and roughly 5 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Torrance borders the city to the north and west, while the Palos Verdes Peninsula is nearby to the south. Lomita is located at approximately 33.792° North latitude and 118.315° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 20,921 residents, and the city covers about 1.87 square miles (4.84 sq km). Lomita was incorporated in 1964 after developing as a small agricultural and residential community. The city once had a stronger connection to local farming, but urban development gradually surrounded it with the larger South Bay communities. The Lomita Railroad Museum is the city's best-known attraction and preserves the history of steam railroads and early railroad travel. The museum is housed in a building designed to resemble a Southern Pacific railroad station. A unique feature of Lomita is its compact size and location between several major South Bay communities, including Torrance, Rolling Hills Estates, and Carson. The nearby Palos Verdes Peninsula offers coastal views, hiking trails, and scenic landscapes, while the Port of Los Angeles is only a short drive away.
