It occupies the western side of the Palos Verdes Peninsula along the Pacific Ocean, about 30 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles and roughly 15 miles south of Santa Monica. Torrance is around 5 miles east, while Redondo Beach is about 7 miles north. Palos Verdes Estates is positioned near 33.801° North latitude and 118.393° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 13,347 residents. The city covers about 4.80 square miles, or 12.43 square kilometers. Its coastline features steep cliffs, rocky shorelines, coves, and ocean viewpoints. Malaga Cove is one of the city's best-known landmarks and includes historic Mediterranean-style buildings and access to the beach and coastal paths. Palos Verdes Estates was incorporated in 1939 and was planned as a residential community with an emphasis on open spaces and scenic views.
