Piedmont is a city located in Alameda County, California, the United States. It sits on the eastern slopes of the Berkeley Hills and is completely surrounded by the city of Oakland. Piedmont is about 6 miles east of downtown San Francisco and roughly 8 miles north of downtown Oakland. Berkeley is around 5 miles northwest, while Alameda is about 7 miles southwest. The city is positioned near 37.824° North latitude and 122.232° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 11,270 residents. Piedmont covers about 1.71 square miles, or 4.43 square kilometers, making it one of the smallest incorporated cities in California by area. The community developed as a residential suburb of Oakland and incorporated as a city in 1908. Piedmont is known for its historic architecture, mature trees, quiet residential streets, and views toward San Francisco Bay.
