Signal Hill is a city located in Los Angeles County, California, the United States. It is an independent city completely surrounded by Long Beach in Southern California. Signal Hill is about 5 miles northeast of downtown Long Beach, 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, and roughly 15 miles west of Anaheim. The city is located at 33.8045° North latitude and 118.1678° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 11,746 residents. Signal Hill covers about 2.2 square miles (5.7 square kilometers), with nearly all of its area consisting of land. The community occupies a prominent hill rising above the surrounding coastal plain, providing broad views across Long Beach and the Los Angeles basin. Signal Hill Park and Hilltop Park are popular local outdoor areas. The city is also historically important for its oil production, which began after major discoveries in the early 20th century. A unique feature of Signal Hill is that it is one of the few California cities completely surrounded by another incorporated city.
