It lies on the Pacific coast in northern San Diego County, about 20 miles north of downtown San Diego and 3 miles north of Del Mar. Encinitas is about 5 miles north, while Escondido is roughly 20 miles northeast of the city. Solana Beach is located at approximately 32.9912° North latitude and 117.2717° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 12,941 residents, and the city has about 3.41 square miles (8.83 square kilometers) of land area. Its 1.7-mile beachfront includes Fletcher Cove, Tide Beach Park, Seascape Surf, and Del Mar Shores.
