It lies in the upper Napa Valley of northern California, about 65 miles north of San Francisco and roughly 30 miles north of Vallejo. Napa is about 20 miles south, while Calistoga is approximately 10 miles north of St. Helena. The city is located at 38.5052° North latitude and 122.4703° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 5,419 residents. St. Helena covers about 5.03 square miles, or approximately 13.03 square kilometers. The city is surrounded by vineyards, oak-covered hills, and the Mayacamas and Vaca mountain ranges. Beringer Vineyards is one of its best-known historic attractions, while downtown St. Helena features preserved buildings and local businesses. The city was named after Mount St. Helena, which rises north of the Napa Valley. A unique feature of St. Helena is its small-town setting in one of California's most historic wine-growing regions.
