Yreka is a city located in Siskiyou County, California, the United States. It is in far Northern California, about 20 miles south of the Oregon border, 60 miles north of Mount Shasta, and approximately 45 miles south of Ashland, Oregon. Yreka lies at approximately 41.726° North latitude and 122.637° West longitude. The city had 7,807 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 10.05 square miles, or 26.03 square kilometers. Yreka was founded in 1851 after gold was discovered in the region and was incorporated in 1857. The Gold Rush brought miners, merchants, and settlers to the area, helping Yreka develop into an important commercial center in the northern Sacramento Valley and Siskiyou Mountains. The city later became the county seat of Siskiyou County and remains an important government and service center for the surrounding region.
