Alamo is a city located in Hidalgo County, Texas, the United States. The city lies in the southern part of Texas near the United States–Mexico border. It is approximately 8 miles (13 km) east of McAllen, 6 miles (10 km) south of Edinburg, and about 55 miles (89 km) west of Brownsville. Alamo is located at 26.1837° North latitude and 98.1231° West longitude. According to the 2020 United States Census, the city had a population of 19,501. Alamo covers approximately 7.04 square miles (18.24 sq km). The city is best known for its close proximity to the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, one of the most important wildlife habitats in the Rio Grande Valley, attracting visitors throughout the year.
