Cuero is a city located in DeWitt County, Texas, the United States. It is the county seat of DeWitt County and lies about 90 miles southeast of San Antonio, 30 miles northwest of Victoria, and roughly 90 miles southeast of Austin. Cuero is located at approximately 29.0933° North latitude and 97.2892° West longitude. The city covers about 6.56 square miles (16.99 sq km) of land and had 8,128 residents in the 2020 Census. The surrounding area has open farmland, ranchland, wooded areas, and rolling South Texas terrain. Cuero was founded in the 1870s and grew after the arrival of the railroad. Its historic downtown includes the DeWitt County Courthouse, which was built in 1896 and remains a major local landmark. Cuero is also known for its annual Turkeyfest, a community celebration tied to the city's turkey-raising history. Cuero Municipal Park provides walking trails, a golf course, a pool, and other outdoor recreation.
