Ennis is a city located in Ellis County, Texas, the United States. It lies about 35 miles south of downtown Dallas and roughly 15 miles east of Waxahachie. Corsicana is about 30 miles southeast, while Arlington is approximately 40 miles northwest. Ennis is located at approximately 32.33° North latitude and 96.63° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 20,159 residents. The city covers about 29.4 square miles, or 76.1 square kilometers. Ennis serves as the county seat of Ellis County and is an important transportation and commercial center south of Dallas. The city developed rapidly after the arrival of the Houston and Texas Central Railway in the 1870s, and railroads remain an important part of its history. Ennis is especially known for its annual Bluebonnet Trails, when large fields of Texas bluebonnets attract visitors during spring.
