Fate is a city located in Rockwall County, Texas, the United States. It lies in northeastern North Texas, about 30 miles east of downtown Dallas and roughly 7 miles east of Rockwall. Fate is positioned at approximately 32.941° North latitude and 96.381° West longitude. The city covers about 18.03 square miles, or 46.70 square kilometers, of land. The 2020 Census recorded 17,958 residents, while recent estimates place the population above 24,000. Fate stands at an elevation of roughly 560 feet above sea level. The city was founded in the 1880s and developed as a small agricultural and railroad community. In recent decades, its location along the eastern edge of the Dallas metropolitan area has driven rapid residential growth. Lake Ray Hubbard lies just southwest of the city and provides opportunities for boating, fishing, parks, and outdoor recreation. Interstate 30 connects Fate with Rockwall, Garland, Dallas, and other communities across the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
