Jasper is a city located in Jasper County, Texas, the United States. It lies in East Texas, about 35 miles north of Beaumont and roughly 70 miles west of the Louisiana border. Jasper serves as the county seat of Jasper County and is surrounded by pine forests, creeks, lakes, and the rolling terrain of the East Texas Piney Woods. The city is located at approximately 30.920° North latitude and 94.000° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,590 residents. Jasper covers about 10.03 square miles, or 25.98 square kilometers. The city was established in the 19th century and developed as a regional center for timber, agriculture, trade, and government. Sam Rayburn Reservoir is one of the area's best-known attractions and supports boating, fishing, camping, and wildlife viewing. The Angelina National Forest is also nearby and provides hiking, hunting, camping, and scenic forest landscapes. A unique feature of Jasper is its location near the meeting area of several major East Texas forests and waterways. The city is also part of the region's important timber industry.
