Kaufman is a city located in Kaufman County, Texas, the United States. It lies in north Texas, about 35 miles southeast of downtown Dallas and roughly 25 miles east of Mesquite. Kaufman serves as the county seat of Kaufman County and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area. The city is surrounded by the open farmland, grasslands, and gently rolling terrain of the Blackland Prairie. Kaufman is located at approximately 32.589° North latitude and 96.309° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,333 residents. The city covers about 8.72 square miles, or 22.58 square kilometers. Kaufman was established in the 19th century and became an important agricultural, commercial, and government center for the surrounding county. The Kaufman County Courthouse is a prominent landmark in the center of the city and reflects the area's long civic history.
