Keene is a city located in Johnson County, Texas, the United States. It lies in north-central Texas, about 30 miles south of Fort Worth and roughly 5 miles southwest of Cleburne. Keene is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and is surrounded by the rolling grasslands, wooded areas, and rural landscapes of the Cross Timbers region. The city is located at approximately 32.396° North latitude and 97.323° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 6,387 residents. Keene covers about 6.42 square miles, or 16.63 square kilometers. The community was founded in the late 19th century and has a long connection with Seventh-day Adventist education and institutions. Southwestern Adventist University is located in Keene and has played a central role in the city's development and identity.
