Where is Luling Located?
Luling is a city located in Caldwell County, Texas, the United States. It lies in Central Texas, about 55 miles southeast of Austin, 20 miles southwest of Lockhart, and roughly 25 miles northeast of Seguin. Luling is located at approximately 29.680° North latitude and 97.647° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 5,599 residents, and the city covers about 5.54 square miles (14.35 sq km). Luling was founded in 1874 by Charles Schoolfield and developed after the arrival of the railroad. The discovery of oil in the Luling area in the 1920s transformed the community and made it an important petroleum center in Central Texas. The Luling Oil Museum preserves this part of the city's history. Luling is also well known for its barbecue tradition and annual Watermelon Thump, a festival celebrating the area's long connection with watermelon farming. The San Marcos River and nearby Palmetto State Park provide opportunities for swimming, fishing, hiking, paddling, and wildlife viewing. A unique feature of Luling is the combination of railroad, oil, barbecue, and agricultural history found in a relatively small Central Texas community.
