Where is Mexia Located?
Mexia is a city located in Limestone County, Texas, the United States. It lies in east-central Texas, about 90 miles south of Dallas, roughly 90 miles northeast of Waco, and about 125 miles north of Houston. Mexia is located at approximately 31.680° North latitude and 96.482° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,459 residents, and the city covers about 9.7 square miles (25.1 sq km). Mexia was established in the 19th century and incorporated in 1871. The city developed along the Houston and Texas Central Railway, which helped connect the community with major Texas markets and encouraged trade and settlement. Agriculture was important during the city's early years, while the discovery of oil in the region during the early 20th century brought a major economic change. The Mexia oil field became one of the most productive fields in Texas during the 1920s and helped shape the city's history. Today, Mexia has a traditional downtown, residential neighborhoods, schools, local businesses, parks, and civic facilities. The surrounding landscape includes rolling farmland, wooded areas, creeks, and reservoirs.
