Where is Crystal City Located?
Crystal City is a city located in Zavala County, Texas, the United States. It is the county seat of Zavala County and lies about 90 miles southwest of San Antonio and roughly 35 miles north of the Mexican border. Crystal City is located at approximately 28.6778° North latitude and 99.8250° West longitude. The city covers about 3.53 square miles (9.14 sq km) and had 3,006 residents in the 2020 Census. The surrounding area is part of the South Texas Plains and has a dry climate, ranchland, farms, mesquite, and brush. Crystal City was incorporated in 1908 and grew as an agricultural center. Irrigation helped local farmers grow vegetables, and the city became especially famous for spinach production. Crystal City is sometimes called the "Spinach Capital of the World" because of its long connection to the crop. A large spinach statue in the city reflects this history. The city also played an important role in the history of Japanese American internment during World War II.
