It lies in the Texas Hill Country, about 26 miles northwest of downtown San Antonio and roughly 8 miles north of Boerne. Fair Oaks Ranch is positioned at approximately 29.757° North latitude and 98.652° West longitude. The city covers about 12.26 square miles, or 31.75 square kilometers, of land. The 2020 Census recorded 9,833 residents, while the 2023 population estimate was about 11,104. Fair Oaks Ranch stands at an elevation of roughly 1,300 feet above sea level. The community grew from the historic ranch owned by Ralph Fair and was incorporated as a single city in 1988 after earlier development as Fair Oaks North and Fair Oaks South.
