Hempstead is a city located in Waller County, Texas, the United States. It lies about 50 miles northwest of Houston and roughly 25 miles east of Brenham. Hempstead sits near the Brazos River and is part of the rural western edge of the Greater Houston metropolitan area. The city is located at approximately 30.097° North latitude and 96.078° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 4,691 residents. Hempstead covers about 5.0 square miles, or 12.95 square kilometers.
