Navasota is a city located in Grimes County, Texas, the United States. It lies in southeast Texas along the Navasota River, about 70 miles northwest of Houston and roughly 30 miles southeast of College Station. Brenham is about 35 miles southwest, while Huntsville is around 40 miles northeast. Navasota is positioned near 30.387° North latitude and 96.087° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,715 residents. The city covers about 7.25 square miles, or 18.78 square kilometers, including land and water. Navasota's historic downtown features restored buildings and reflects the city's importance as a railroad and commercial center during the late 19th century. Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site is nearby and marks the location where delegates declared Texas independence in 1836. Navasota is also associated with blues musician Mance Lipscomb.
