River Oaks is a city located in Tarrant County, Texas, the United States. It lies immediately west of Fort Worth along the Clear Fork of the Trinity River, about 5 miles west of downtown Fort Worth and roughly 7 miles north of Benbrook. White Settlement is around 5 miles west, while Lake Worth is about 7 miles northwest. River Oaks is positioned near 32.777° North latitude and 97.396° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,991 residents. The city covers about 1.75 square miles, or 4.53 square kilometers. River Oaks was incorporated in 1940 after developing as a residential community west of Fort Worth. Its early growth was influenced by the expansion of Fort Worth and the development of transportation routes across Tarrant County. The Clear Fork of the Trinity River forms part of the area's natural landscape and connects River Oaks with parks and trails farther east and west. A unique feature of River Oaks is its close proximity to downtown Fort Worth while maintaining its own municipal government and neighborhood identity.
