Whitehouse is a city located in Smith County, Texas, the United States. It is in East Texas, about 10 miles south of Tyler, 25 miles west of Kilgore, and approximately 90 miles southeast of Dallas. Whitehouse lies at approximately 32.226° North latitude and 95.225° West longitude. The city had 8,027 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 6.10 square miles, or 15.80 square kilometers. Whitehouse began as a small settlement in the 19th century and developed along transportation routes connecting communities in Smith County. The arrival of the railroad helped strengthen the local economy and supported the growth of the community. Today, Whitehouse is closely connected to Tyler and forms part of the wider Tyler metropolitan area. The surrounding East Texas landscape features pine forests, creeks, lakes, and rolling terrain.
