It is on the northeast side of San Antonio, about 10 miles northeast of downtown San Antonio, 5 miles west of Converse, and approximately 8 miles north of Kirby. Windcrest lies at approximately 29.515° North latitude and 98.380° West longitude. The city had 5,110 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 2.96 square miles, or 7.67 square kilometers. Windcrest was incorporated in 1959 and developed as a planned suburban community during the rapid growth of the San Antonio area. The city is known for its residential neighborhoods, mature trees, landscaped streets, and community-oriented character. Windcrest's annual holiday light displays have also become a well-known seasonal attraction in the San Antonio region.
