Gladewater is a city located in Gregg County and Upshur County, Texas, the United States. It lies in East Texas, about 15 miles west of Longview and roughly 25 miles northeast of Tyler. Gladewater is part of the Longview metropolitan area and sits near U.S. Highway 80 and State Highway 271. The city is located at approximately 32.536° North latitude and 94.942° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 6,134 residents. Gladewater covers about 4.55 square miles, or 11.8 square kilometers. The city became widely known after the discovery of oil in the East Texas Oil Field in the early 1930s, which brought rapid growth and new businesses.
