The city was established in the late nineteenth century and was incorporated in 1925 as a small fishing and agricultural settlement along the Indian River Lagoon. Sebastian developed historically through citrus farming, fishing, and river trade before expanding as a residential and recreational community on Florida’s Treasure Coast.
