Where is Micronesia Located?

Federated States of Micronesia is located in the western Pacific Ocean.

Federated States of Micronesia is sovereign island nation composed of four states measured from west to east namely - Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae. However, the total number of islands is more than 600. Likewise, the total area of Federated States of Micronesia is quite small i.e. merely about 702 sq km but spread in more than 2,600,000 sq km area of the Pacific Ocean. The capital city of Federated States of Micronesia is Palikir located on the Pohnpei Island; however, the largest city is Weno on the Chuuk Island.

Formerly, it was part of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (TTPI), a United Nations Trust Territory under U.S. administration, but in the year 1979, it formed its own constitutional government and in the year 1986, it got its independence under a Compact of Free Association with the United States.

Though, the region has some amount mineral resources but the economy is largely dependent upon subsistence farming and fishing. Tourism in the region of Federated State of Micronesia is also growing sector of economy.
