Suriname is a small country on the northeastern coast of South America between Guyana, French Guiana, and Brazil. The country is divided into 10 districts and further subdivided into 62 resorts for local administration. Paramaribo is the national capital and also the largest city in Suriname, where much of the country’s population, business activity, and government institutions are concentrated.

Most of Suriname is covered by tropical rainforest, rivers, and sparsely populated interior lands, while the northern coastal belt contains the main cities, ports, farms, and transport routes. Different districts are known for mining, agriculture, forestry, fishing, ecotourism, and trade, and the country’s mix of Indigenous, African, Indian, Javanese, Chinese, and European heritage gives each region its own character and traditions.
